Andy Murray

Andy Murray is currently the 4th ranked player in ATP World Tour. In 2010 Murray has achieved a 13-5 record on the season. Though it is early in the year, Murray has already managed to earn more than 1 million dollars on the season. This is the 3rd highest total in the world, only behind Andy Roddick and Roger Federer.

Murray is only 22 years old and has had two solid years in a row, winning at least 5 singles titles in each year. Murray’s season so far has held mixed results. Murray became just the second British player ever to reach the final match in two separate Grand Slam tournaments this year. He faced Roger Federer in the final round of the Australian Open. He lost in straight sets but showed he had the potential to get to the top in that match.

He also had a lot of success at the BNP Paribas Open, reaching the quarter finals. These two tournaments represent some great efforts from Murray, but not everything has been so great this year.

In Murray’s tournament at the ATP Masters Series Sony Ericsson Open Murray struggled. He received a bye in the first round, but then lost in the 2nd round in straight sets to Mardy Fish. This loss caused him to lose his ranking as the 3rd best player in the world to Rafael Nadal.

We have seen flashes of brilliance from Murray this year, but if he hopes to enter the elite status of a 1st or 2nd ranked player he will need to win those earl y rounds every tournament.
