David Ferrer
David Ferrer is ranked 17th in the world according to the ATP World Rankings. Ferrer has had a fairly similar year to Juan Carlos Ferrero, the player ranked one spot ahead of him in the ATP World Rankings.
Like Juan Carlos Ferrero, Ferrer has enjoyed a great season according to his record of 18-6. He has also similarly had success in going deep into tournaments, including a Singles Title in the Abierto Mexicano Telcel.
Despite these successes, there are still some questions as to what level of player Ferrer is currently playing at. Outside of a match against Rafael Nadal, one of the top players in the world, Ferrer has not really had to play any top level players. His best win of the season has been against Juan Carlos Ferrero, who similarly has questions surrounding him due to lack of matches against the top level players in the world.
One would think that Ferrer still has the ability to play with the top level tennis players in the world. Just two years ago Ferrer was ranked 4th in the ATP World Rankings. His standing in the ATP World Ranking is quite different today than it was 2 years ago.
Ferrer will need to prove to the world that he is still an elite player if he hopes to move any higher than he currently is in the rankings. This will include beating players that are ranked higher than him such as Andy Roddick, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal. If he cannot do this, he will remain as only a second thought amongst fans of men’s tennis.
