Fernando Verdasco

Fernando Verdasco is the 12th ranked player in the world for men’s tennis players. So far in 2010 Verdasco has shown flashes of promise, including a Singles Title at the SAP Open. His record in 2010 is 14-5.

There have been a few moments this season where Verdasco has shown the potential that he possesses. One of these includes the final match in the SAP Open where he took on Andy Roddick. Through the course of Verdasco’s career he has been notorious for making mistakes during big tournaments and at key moments in matches.

In his match against Roddick he showed signs of breaking out of that. Roddick is one of the most famous players in the game and Verdasco has been known to buckle under that sort of pressure. Verdasco was able to maintain composure and won the tournament. This could be good news for Verdasco. He may be growing out of these old problems.

One year ago Verdasco was as high as the 7th ranked player in the world. Verdasco needs to find more consistency if he hopes to stay towards the top level of the game. He is within range of the players ahead of him in the world rankings, but he is also at a point where he could fall to others that are close behind him.

Verdasco has all of the necessary tools. The only question is if he can use them for his own good. His success will depend on his ability to maintain his composure under pressure.
