Ivan Ljubicic
The 14th ranking in the world for the ATP World Rankings is held by Croatian player Ivan Ljubicic. Out of all of the top players in the World Ljubicic is definitely among the older part of the group at 31 years old. Despite his age he has already enjoyed some great finishes in 2010.
Ivan Ljubicic put together a very impressive tournament at the BNP Paribas Open. En route to victory Ivan Ljubicic had the tall task of beating some of the very best tennis players in the world. In one tournament Ljubicic went on a streak to beat Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick in the same tournament. With his win over Andy Roddick, Ivan Ljubicic made history. His victory made him the first Croat to ever win the event.
Years ago Ljubicic was considered to be one of the top players in the world. He was ranked as high as the 3rd best player in 2006. Despite a current position that is much lower than 3rd in the world, Ljubicic has shown that he still has gas in the tank.
If Ljubicic can play as well as he did at the BP Paribas Open, he will have the opportunity to move up this year. It takes a special player to take on so many top level players in the same tournament.
There will be questions as to how long Ljubicic will be able to go at his age. It is difficult to tell if he will slow down or not. Look for him to give all that he has and find ways to win matches. His ability to play so well against the top players in the world will keep him in the top 20 rankings for a while.
