Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is now the 10th ranked player in the world. Just two years after surprising the world by making it to the finals of a Grand Slam event as an unranked player, Tsonga has shown that he is one of the top players in the world. Tsonga has won 14 matches while losing 6 so far in 2010.

Though Tsonga has proven to be a consistent player already, he has not yet reached the level of winning a significant amount of tournaments each year. Last year he won 3 tournaments and this year he has still not won a Singles Title.

Tsonga is one of the larger, more intimidating men in the tennis world. He uses his size and strength to produce a powerful, effective serve. His forehand and backhand are also very powerful shots. This powerful arsenal of shots makes him a formidable foe on hard court surfaces. In order to become more well rounded he has also improved his skills for clay court matches. His net play is great and when he is playing well, he is tough to beat.

Tsonga has all of the tools to make a good showing the 2010 season. He has reached the semifinals twice so far on the year, including in the Australian Open.

It appears that he is on the right track towards moving up in the tennis rankings. Two of his 4 losses came to Roger Federer and Nafael Nadal, two of the greatest players of the last decade. He also proved to be too much for 2nd ranked Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. This could be the year for Tsonga to break out and show the tennis world what he is capable of.
