Mikhail Youzhny

Mikhail Youzhny, from Russia, is currently the 13th ranked tennis player in the ATP World Rankings. Mikhail Youzhny has won 15 matches this year while losing 5.

Though Youzhny has not won a Singles Title this year, he has played brilliantly at certain times. He has already gone to two championship matches on the year and has also made it to another quarterfinal.

Youzhny has been showing signs of improvement but he has also had some showings that were less than what he would hope for. In the Qatar ExxonMobil Open Youzhny did not even get past his first round matchup. It’s difficult to see a player like Youzhny with so much talent struggle to remain consistent.

Another red flag that has shown up this year was his performance in the Australian Open. While many of the best players in the world play their best tennis in the Grand Slam tournaments, Youzhny lost in the 3rd round. These sorts of performances are tough to swallow for an aspiring tennis player.

Youzhny is a unique player. He has a backhand shot that is unlike most players in the world. His shot tends to switch from a one hand shot to a two hand shot depending on the point of the game. He is an exciting player to watch that knows how to work the crowd. On a regular basis Youzhny salutes the crowd after points. The crowd really seems to enjoy his presence and play. If Youzhny can find some consistency in his career, the crowd could be a big tool for him.
