Radek Stepanek

Radek Stepanek has been shaky since the start of 2010. This shakiness is well demonstrated in his record of 7-6. One may note that he has simply not played very many matches this season. In response we might note that if Radek Stepanek had not been losing so frequently in the early rounds of tournaments he would have the opportunity to play a lot more matches.

There have been three different events on the season where Radek Stepanek failed to advance past his first match of the tournament. This is not where his troubles end however, as he has failed to advance past his 2nd match in two other tournaments.

These sorts of results are not typical of a player who is ranked in the top 20 on the ATP World Standings. Radek Stepanek currently sits in the 19th slot of the world rankings.

Despite these awful results in the majority of his tournaments, Radek Stepanek has managed to advance to the final of one of his tournaments. En route to the final Stepanek even beat Gael Monfils easily in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. When he finally played Andy Roddick in the final, Stepanek pushed Roddick to the limit twice in a heart breaking 6-7, 6-7 defeat.

It is difficult to see how Stepanek, the former 8th ranked player in the world, can be so inconsistent. He has shown the ability to play with the most talented players in the world at times, but at other times he has lost early in tournaments. Consistency will be the key for Stepanek in 2010.
