Robin Soderling
Robin Soderling currently stands in the 8th slot in the world tennis rankings. Robin Soderling is playing at the highest level of his career so far, having recently reached the 7th spot in the world rankings, the highest he has ever been in his career.
Soderling has been very good so far this season. He has put together a 16-5 record in 2010 so far, including a Singles Title. The tournament win came at the ABM AMRO Championship in the Netherlands. He has also managed to reach the semifinals two other times on the season.
Though Soderling has been solid for the greater part of the season, he did not make a good showing at the Australian Open. Often times in the Grand Slam tournaments the lower ranked players come out playing really well. They want to prove to the world that they have potential in the tennis world.
Unfortunately this does not excuse the 8th ranked player in the world to lose his first match in the tournament. If Soderling wants to prove that he is one of the greatest players in the world he will need to have better showings at the Grand Slam tournaments.
Despite the poor finish in the Australian Open, Soderling is still very close to Andy Roddick in competition for the 7th ranking in the world. With a few strong performances Soderling has the potential to keep moving up.
Soderling is already having a solid season even though he has yet to play on a clay court. Last year he was actually much more successful on the clay courts. As the clay tournaments come we could see Soderling take an advantage over some of the other top players.
