Roger Federer

Roger Federer has enjoyed the start of another excellent year. Federer has been at the top of men’s tennis for years and looks to continue that trend this year.

Federer has posted a 13-3 record so far on the year. Ten of these wins were consecutive, starting at the Australian Open. Federer was able to win the first grand slam of the year with a great showing at the Australian Open. Along the way Federer was dominant, losing just 3 sets in the entire tournament.

Federer has shown that he is ready to take on all of the challengers this year. In route to his Grand Slam victory at the Australian Open, Federer took out Andy Murray. Andy Murray is the 4th ranked player in the world and seen as one of the top young competitors. Federer has been playing professionally for years and is getting close to the 30 year old mark. Many players slow down as they approach 30, but this win shows that Federer is still not finished.

This 13-3 start is good news for Federer. Though Federer has been continuously successful for the last few years, his last two seasons have been slightly down by his standards.

In 2007 Federer had a 63-7 record. That season he won 7 singles titles and was quite dominant. The next year Federer showed signs of decline. In 2008 Federer lost 15 matches and only won 4 singles titles. Though a 66-15 record is great, it was not equal to what Federer had previously achieved. A good start to this season could point to a return to the success Federer had in 2007.
