Elena Dementieva

Elena Dementieva has started off 2010 with some very strong performances. After winning only 3 Singles titles in the entire year of 2009, Elena Dementieva has already managed to win 2 Singles Titles in 2010.

On her way to those Singles Titles Elena Dementieva has managed to win 17 matches. This number is impressive compared to the fact that she has lost just 5 matches on the year.

Her Singles Titles have taken play at the WTA Medibank International and the WTA OPEN GDF SUEZ. Her victory at the WTA Medibank International included impressive victories over number 1 ranked Serena Williams and Dinara Safina. In her victory over Dinar Safina she won in straight sets with a 6-2, 6-3 performance. In her victory over Serena Williams in the championship round of the tournament she also won in straight sets with an equally dominant 6-3, 6-2 performance.

This demonstrated ability to handle the top players in the world will go a long way for Dementieva. She has still not won a Grand Slam title in her career, but with impressive wins like those seen at the WTA Medibank International she may be on track to finding Grand Slam success.

She is one of the faster players in world and has a powerful forehand that she can use effectively on the run. Her game is suited to play anywhere and against anyone. One weakness that seems to be improving in 2010 is a formerly erratic serve. With Dementieva playing so well, women’s tennis looks to have some great parity within the top players in the world.
