Francesca Schiavone

To this point, Francesca Schiavone has not been able to produce the same results in 2010 that she produced in 2009. Her record stands at 10-7 on the season, and she is currently the 17th ranked player in the world in the WTA World Rankings.

Shiavone has had a few great tournaments over the course of the last year helping her remain high in the rankings, but has generally struggled to be consistent. This year Francesca Schiavone has only managed to pass her second opponent of a tournament before being eliminated twice so far.

The best tournament of the year for Francesca Schiavone was the WTA ASB Classic. She managed to reach the semifinals in that tournament before being ousted by Flavia Pennetta. Shiavone also made a strong showing at the Australian Open.

In the Australian Open she managed to advance the 4th round of the tournament. In the 4th round she met up with Venus Williams. She actually managed to win the first set 6-3 against Venus. Unfortunately Venus Williams was too much for Schiavone. The next two sets were lost by Schiavone 2-6, 1-6.

Schiavone is a player that loves to play at the net. She uses her backhand to set up her points and makes her way to the net to finish people off. She has a strong forehand that she can hit to all parts of the court. Her serve is okay, but has never been dominant. Many of the top players in the world have more dominant serves that allow them to take a few easy points each game. With Schiavone lacking this type of serve, it is sometimes difficult for her to take key points in a close match.
