Marion Bartoli
Marion Bartoli is 10-4 in 2010 and sits in the 12th spot in the WTA World Rankings. There are a lot of players near Bartoli with similar point totals, and she will need to put forth some solid play if she hopes to keep her position in the rankings.
Bartoli has been absolutely impressive at times this year, but has also had her struggles. One particularly impressive match was against the 5th ranked player in the world Svetlana Kuznetsova.
In her match against Svetlana Kuznetsova, Bartoli was incredible at times. The final score of the match was a straight set victory of 6-3, 6-0 in favor of Bartoli. Svetlana Kuznetsova is one of the best players in the world, and it is impressive to show the ability to dominate one of the top players in the world by beating them 6-0 in one of the sets.
Unfortunately, Bartoli has not been able to find the consistency that she had against Svetlana Kuznetsova. In other matches, Bartoli has been beaten 0-6 twice. This completely offsets the impressive match that she had earlier in the year. This sort of inconsistency is tough to swallow for a competitor like her.
Part of the inconsistency of Bartoli could be attributed to her unorthodox style of play. She uses both hands when hitting her forehand and her backhand. Her full swinging, two handed strokes tend to leave her a step behind her opponents when they hit a good shot. The faster players in the league tend to have an advantage over her because of her lack of mobility.
