Svetlana Kuznetsova

Svetlana Kuznetsova is the 5th ranked player in the WTA World Rankings. Kuznetsova has started off the year of 2010 with some trouble. After putting up a 43-16 record and winning 3 Singles Titles in 2009, Kuznetsova has struggled to reproduce those results in 2010.

She has managed to win just 7 matches in 2010 while losing 5. Certainly it is better to win more than you lose, but it is difficult to imagine a top 5 player struggling to keep over .500 in their winning percentage.

Kuznetsova has had a few tournaments this year where she has not been able to pass the 2nd round. Her best finishes of 2010 are 2 different 4th round losses in the WTA Sony Ericsson Open and the Australian Open.

These poor results do not match up with the physical abilities of Kuznetsova. Kuznetsova is seen as one of the strongest players in the WTA and has an arsenal of powerful shots. She is known for her ability to get to difficult shots and hit nearly un-returnable shots from anywhere on the court. Her physical abilities are rivaled by very few players in the WTA. This sort of talent should not produce a mediocre player.

If Kuznetsova hopes to stay near the top, she will need to find a way to get out of the early rounds of tournaments. She has the ability to beat the better players in the world and perhaps if she were to make it deep into a tournament her confidence would be restored.
