Venus Williams

Venus Williams has come out firing in 2010. Years ago Venus Williams was the top player in women’s tennis, but has since struggled to find her place near the top of the women’s tennis world. She has been in and out of the top level. In 2007 she actually did not play at all.

To put the success of Venus Williams into perspective, we may look at her results last year. In the entire last year, Venus Williams went 38-16 in her matches and won 2 singles titles. These are solid numbers, but certainly not results typical a player aspiring for the top.

This year Venus Williams has already won a whopping 19 matches while only losing 2 in the process. This has brought her to the championship match in 3 of her 4 matches. In her only tournament where she did not advance to the championship round she still managed to make it to the quarterfinals.
Out of her 3 finals appearances, Venus has managed to win 2 Singles Titles. In the year of 2010 she has only won 2 Singles Titles. Her 19 wins also represent half of her total from the entire year of 2009.

Venus appears to be rising to the top again. She has a powerful serve that leaves her opponents off balance. She loves to take advantage of her opponents while they are off balance with a powerful forehand shot. Venus has the abilities to beat anyone, but at times makes unforced errors as she tries to put her opponents away. If Venus can continue playing the way she has thus far in 2010 we may see Venus and her sister Serena battling for the top spot in the WTA World Rankings.
