Victoria Azarenka
Victoria Azarenka is the 9th ranked player in the WTA World Rankings. In the 2010 years, Victoria Azarenka has shown a lot of ups and downs.
Victoria Azarenka has demonstrated the ability to make it to the deep rounds of tournaments. In her tournaments this year she has managed to advance to the quarterfinals twice, the semifinals once, and the finals one time. Her ability to get to those late rounds is great, but she has struggled when she has encountered the top players in the game in those late rounds.
Victoria Azarenka has a record of 16-6 on the year. Of her 6 losses, 4 of them have come to players in the top 10 of the WTA World Rankings. Her other two losses have come to the same player, Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez(note: one of these losses was a withdrawal).
Azarenka is known for her powerful shots. This includes a great backhand stroke, which some consider to be the best in the game. She is effective in almost every area of the game with the exception of her serve. Her serve has been inaccurate, inconsistent, and weak throughout her career. It is difficult to play at a high level while you have a weak serve. Her forehand is usually serviceable, but at times she makes a lot of unforced errors. When her forehand is struggling, she is susceptible to be beaten by some of the weaker players in the world.
Azarenka has enjoyed a solid season, but still has some work to do in order to be called one of the elite players of women’s tennis. If she can figure out how to beat those top players in the late rounds of tournaments, she may step to the next level.
